![]() North Platte WU Newsletter Editors 7 p.m. April 6 at Game and Fish Building We hope to have a representative from the Wyoming Game and Fish at this months meeting to give us the lowdown on our local fisheries, the results of last years netting surveys and related information. If you were at our annual banquet then it know it was a great success. It appears we will have to raise the limit on number of tickets next year as we were a sellout this year and had added 25 more seats at the last min and sold them out in an hour or so. Our sponsors and donors came through with some great prizes and awards for this years bash. I would really like to say thanks again to those donors and sponsors who made this banquet the success it was. We raised over $14,000 at this years banquet and had 425 attendees. At the March meeting it was motioned and approved to give the Wyoming Game and Fish Dept $2800 so they can buy some equipment and supplies to help them with their Crappie habitat enhancement project at Boysen. This equipment will be used each year for this project. They would like to have some help with the manual labor also. Perhaps in the next newsletter we will have a notice as to which day, probably a Saturday, so we can show up in mass to help. We should be able to get a lot done in a short time if we get enough people. Our winnning loser this last month was Terry Barnhart. Every month at our monthly meeting we draw a name from our entire membership. If that member is present at the meeting he wins a $100 Gift certificate to Sportsman's Warehouse. Tournament news Our own Tough Man tournament is on for this month at Alcova Reservoir. Set for Saturday April 22, the weekend after Easter. This is more of a membership drive than a fund raiser and did increase our membership last year by 55 new members. You received an entry blank with this news letter with all the details. Also enclosed is a membership renewal form. You will need to be a member on record to enter the tournament. For those weekend tournament fisher persons amongst us there is another series that may interest you. Called the Lowrance-sponsored Pro Team Walleye League-Wy. It is a two tournament, two days each series that starts at Keyhole Reservoir and ends at Boysen Reservoir. More information is available at www.westernwalleye.com or call 307-472-9887. If you open a new browser you can then surf the web as you listen at the same time. Some sites to check out are www.thenextbite.com or www.catch-n.com which has some good shows such as Doc Samson, the highest money winner in walleye tournament fishing, talking about getting the most out of your electronics or Scott Golden talking about his website, walleyecentral.com. Some quotable quotes Give a man a fish and he has food for a day; teach him how to fish and you can get rid of him for the entire weekend. -- Zenna Schaffer Nothing makes a fish bigger than almost being caught. -- Author Unknown "The angling fever is a very real disease and can only be cured by the application of cold water and fresh, untainted air." -- Theodore Gordon On the lighter side The Funeral As a young minister, I was asked by a funeral director to hold a grave-side service for a homeless man, with no family or friends, who had died while traveling through the area. The funeral was to be held at a cemetery way back in the country, and this man would be the first to be laid to rest there. As I was not familiar with the backwoods area, I became lost; and being a typical man, did not stop for directions. I finally arrived an hour late. I saw the backhoe and the crew, who was eating lunch, but the hearse was nowhere in sight. I apologized to the workers for my tardiness, and stepped to the side of the open grave, where I saw the vault lid already in place. I assured the workers I would not hold them up for long, but this was the proper thing to do. The workers gathered around, still eating their lunch. I poured out my heart and soul. As I preached the workers began to say "Amen," "Praise the Lord," and "Glory," I preached, and I preached, like I'd never preached before: from Genesis all the way to Revelation. I closed the lengthy service with a prayer and walked to my car. I felt I had done my duty for the homeless man and that the crew would leave with a renewed sense of purpose and dedication, in spite of my tardiness. As I was opening the door and taking off my coat, I overheard one of the workers saying to another, "I ain't never seen anything like that before and I've been putting in septic tanks for twenty years!" -- Submitted by Mark Henckel, our webmaster No need for healing Three guys were fishing in a lake one day, when Jesus walked across the water and joined them in the boat. When the three astonished men had settled down enough to speak, the first guy asked humbly, "Jesus, I've suffered from back pain ever since I took shrapnel in the Vietnam War. Could you help me?" "Of course, my son," Jesus said. And, when he touched the man's back he felt relief for the first time in years. The second guy who wore very thick glasses and had a hard time reading and driving , asked if Jesus could do anything about his poor eyesight. Jesus smiled, removed the man's glasses and tossed them into the lake. When they hit the water, the man's eyes cleared and he could see everything distinctly. When Jesus turned to the third guy, the guy put his hands out defensively. "Don't touch me!" he cried. "I'm on a disability pension." -- Found at www.landbigfish.com Divorce? Two guys out fishing and sipping beer while discussing football and Nascar: All of a sudden the first guy says " I think I'm gonna divorce my wife. She hasn't spoken to me in over 6 months." The second guy sips his beer and says, "You better think it over. Women like that are hard to find." wyowalleyenewsletter@hotmail.com Tight Lines -- Woody and Bruce |
