![]() North Platte WU Newsletter Editor Thursday August 9th, 2007 at Wyoming Game and Fish Our regular club meeting on the first Thursday of the month will be postponed to the second Thursday due to the meeting room not being available to us. So mark your calender for Thursday, Aug 9th at the Wyoming Game and Fish building, 7:00 PM. Our club meeting in September will also be on the second Thursday of the month also due to the room not being available. The remainder of the year our meetings will be held on the first Thursday of the month. At last months meeting we elected two new board of directors. They are Howard Tilton and Woody Giles. We will try to sort through the rest of the directors and officers at this months meeting. We draw from a list of all club members and if that member is present they would win a gift certificate from Sportsman's Warehouse. Last months winning loser was Jacob Sabus. We increase the prize value by $10 a month so August's award will be $140. We have a bunch of club hats in storage and I was wondering what we might do with them. I had a thought about a trade with the Montana walleye club of a few hats and suggested it to them. They will run it past their club at their meeting and I will run it pass our club at this months meeting. I was thinking maybe a swap of 20 caps. You can see their club hats at www.walleyesforever.com on the front of the page. My thoughts are that we could put up a few as part of the raffles we have at each meeting or sell a few. Our July family outing went very well again. Plenty of fish were caught for the fish fry. Bob Heck's 19 ¼ fish won the big fish plaque by ¼ inch over Bill Elmore. Larry Rue and Joel Shinmori cleaned the fish while Howard Ewart, Roy and Lotus Harrington did a fine job with the cooking as usual. I wasn't having a very good day fishing until I decided to find and follow Chuck McAuley. He showed me what to use, where to use it, and how to use it. I then started to catch a few fish although they were on the small side and I put them back to be caught again. Even at that I saw Chuck throw back a bunch of fish. Thanks Chuck for the lessons. I'll be following you again. The Wyoming Walleye Circuit held it's regular season finals at Seminoe Reservoir on July 14-15. Day one saw our own Brandon Green and Brandon Miller weighing in 16.84 pounds for first place honors.. They had the big fish award on day one with a 12.06 pounder. Day two had member Al Keffer and partner Bill Porter winning overall with a combined two day total of 33.24 pounds. Green and Miller finished 2nd place overall with a total of 20.91 pounds. Big fish on day two was a nice 11.12 pounder caught by the team of Keffer and Porter. The Wyoming Walleye Circuit Championship event will be held Sept 8-9 at Glendo. The Lowrance Pro Team Circuit "Yar-Craft Boats Championship" will be held Aug 22-23-24 at Devils Lake. Good luck to all club members entered into these events. Useless facts and space filler August is Admit You're Happy Month August 5th National Mustard Day August 6th is "Wiggle your toes day" Fishing reports, tips and tricks I thought I would share a small experience I had at Boysen during the Wyoming Walleye Circuit last month. While standing in line for Saturday's free dinner I could not help overhearing a conversation between a couple of tournament entrants. One was telling of his travels and he must of mentioned every major walleye lake between here and Maine. He said he had a place in Nebraska but only stayed there a few days a year. I became curious and asked his name. I was standing next to Ron Seelhoff, the Professional Walleye Tour's (PWT) All-time money winner, only back-to-back championship winner, only six-time Champion, and two-time Angler of the year. I immediately rubbed shoulders with him, telling him I wished some of what he had would rub off on me, which made him laugh. What struck me most was how he mentioned that he really enjoyed fishing small tournaments like those found in Wyoming and specifically that he felt that our local tournament guys and gals deserved high marks for their fishing skills. He said they were much more talented that they even knew. I felt that was very high praise coming from one of the best of the best. For the record Ron finished 52nd out of 92 boats. I received some second hand news about the courtesy docks we purchased and donated to the Glendo State Park. They are at the park and the powers that be are waiting for the lake to reach its lowest level this fall so that a cable and anchoring system can be put in place. This will enable the docks to remain perpendicular to shore as the lake goes through its annual rise and fall. It was mentioned that the dock will be probably placed in the whiskey area. Walleye fishing is great at Alcova. Try cranks in Cottonwood and Black beach along the shorelines later in the afternoons. Boysen is said to be producing limits of eaters. Trolling over the trees is said to be getting hot. Our fishing poles we ordered to be given away to kids are on temporary hold. They did not have enough on hand to fill our order so we had them hold the order until it could be filled. 100 of the poles are designated for the Outdoor show held at the Events Center and those will arrive in mid to late Aug if not sooner. But none measured up to the one he caught May 23. Walker, 61, now holds the record for the biggest lake trout caught in Colorado: The fish weighed 50 pounds, 5 ounces, measured 44 1/4 inches long with a girth of 34 3/8 inches. The record lake trout, also known as a Mackinaw, weighed nearly 4 pounds more than the previous record lake trout caught in 2003 that weighed 46 pounds 14 ounces and measured 42 1/2 inches long. Some great quotes The surprising thing about young fools is how many survive to become old fools. -- Doug Larson I was always taught to respect my elders and I've now reached the age when I don't have anybody to respect. -- George Burns The older I grow the more I distrust the familiar doctrine that age brings wisdom. -- H. L. Mencken On the lighter side The Silent Treatment A man and his wife were having problems at home and began giving each other the silent treatment. Suddenly, the man realized the next day he would need his wife to wake him at 5:00 AM for an early morning business flight. Not wanting to be the first to break the silence (and LOSE), he wrote on a piece of paper ,"Please wake me at 5:00 AM.". He left it where he knew she would find it. The next morning the man woke up, only to discover it was 9:00 AM and he had missed his flight. Furious, he got out of bed to see why his wife hadn't woke him. Before he could utter a single word he noticed a piece of paper on the night stand beside him. It read "It is 5:00 AM. Wake up." Ole the Contractor A couple was looking through their new home with Ole the contractor, picking out wall colors for the various rooms. They went into the living room first and said they'd like to have it painted a pale blue. Ole wrote something down on a pad, then went to the window and yelled, "Gren sida oop!" They went on into the kitchen, where the couple chose a light clay color for the room. Again, Ole wrote something on a pad, went to the window and yelled, "Gren sida oop!" This continued from room to room, upstairs and downstairs, all through the house, until they were finished. Finally, the husband couldn't contain himself any longer. he had to find out what was going on. "I'm confused," he said. "Every room we've gone to, we've picked out a particular paint color, you've written on a pad, then gone to the window and yelled, 'Gren sida oop!' Now, I know a little Norwegian. And we didn't choose green for any of the rooms. What's going on?"v "Oh", said Ole. "I've got Sven out der layin' sod for me." wyowalleyenewsletter@hotmail.com Tight Lines -- Woody G. |
