![]() North Platte WU Newsletter Editor at Wyoming Game and Fish in Casper Our meetings are the first Thursday of the month The Hunter Fittje Memorial Fishing Derby gave us a chance to give away the rest of last years allotment of fishing pole outfits. Two members of NPWU showed up with 160 poles which went fast, and was met with a great deal of appreciation by the kids and their parents. Alas, we were about 20 poles short of meeting the need so names and phone numbers were taken and we will deliver poles to the kids at their homes. The eighth annual Hunter Fittje Memorial Fishing Derby was held at Yesness Pond, on July 19, for kids in memory of an little boy who loved to fish. The derby contests was open to kids up to 9 years old, but children of all ages were welcome to participate. The entry fee was $5 per child, and each registered participant receives a fishing derby T-shirt and goody bag. All proceeds from the derby are given to the Hunter Fittje Memorial Scholarship Fund which provides two $500 scholarships to graduates from any of Natrona County School District's high schools. Door prizes were given away throughout the derby. Last month we were waiting for the Fish Wyoming Grant that we had applied for and was granted. It was discovered that we needed to purchase the fishing poles, then present the invoice to Game and Fish and there after we would be issued the funds. So an order was placed for the poles, reels, and tackle kits. We decided to bulk order the rods and reels in hoping to cut down the amount of waste packaging. It worked as this order of 900 fishing sets arrived on 4 pallets while last years order of 430 arrived in 3 pallets. They arrived last week after a lot of phone tag with the various shipping companies involved and the shipper. Because of the size of the order and inventory limits we were only able to purchase 900 fishing outfits with our $10,000. This will be handed out at Wyoming Hunting and Fishing Heritage Expo this September. Details on just how this will be done is still being worked out. It should be noted that these rods and reels are very nice indeed and should be a huge hit with kids. When we receive our grant monies we hope to purchase an enclosed trailer to store such items and to announce our presence at the various functions we will be attending. At this months meeting we will be deciding if we will be applying for any of grant monies available from the Wyoming Game and Fish. I will suggest we continue our fishing pole grant request. We have been in contact with the Casper City Parks Dept. on the feasibility and costs of extending the southern portion of Harry Yessness Pond to enable more kids to fish on its shoreline. I doubt anything can be done this year but I have hopes of something being worked out for next fall. NPWU July Family Outing There was a great crowd for the July 19th outing, we estimate over 70 people attended, coming as far away as Egypt, (Howard and Nina's Son was in town). Dakota Davis was the winner of the largest walleye, a 22 incher. He just squeaked out the infamous Chuck McCauley by quarter of an inch. Again, we need to give a great big THANK YOU to Howard and Nina Ewart, Roy and Lotus Herrington, with their awesome talent for cooking our fish and onion rings, also Larry Rue and Buddy who cleaned the fish, and every one who participated by bringing a covered dish and helping with the clean up. We even had guests from the Pathfinder Boat Club bring a dish, and they would like to remind us, we have until Labor Day to buy one of their 50/50 tickets. This is a great chance to win some money for something special. The tickets are available from a Pathfinder Boat Club member or you may get them from the Pathfinder marina. If you have never participated in one of our family outings you are missing out. It is a lot of fun, but you will have to wait until next year when our Glendo outing will be held in June and our Pathfinder outing will be held in July. The dates will be decided at a future meeting so be sure to attend the monthly meetings to provide your input and maybe win some great prizes. Then, at about 3:30 p.m. the House of Representatives took up the same bill that had already been passed by the Senate and passed it by an overwhelming majority. As you read these words the bill is on its way to the White House for the President's signature. After nearly two years of effort on the part of the boating industry and tens of thousands of boat owners - including nearly 30,000 BoatTEST.com members who contacted Congress - America's congressional representatives have deep-sixed what could have been the most oppressive regulations ever to be inflicted on recreational boat owners anywhere. Sen. Lisa Murkowski's 11th hour "hold" on passage turned out to be a three-week cliff-hanger right out of Hollywood. This means you will NOT need an $800 permit to empty your live well at area lakes.

On the lighter side The counseling session (From the Walleyes Forever E-Newsletter) A husband and wife came for counseling after 20 years of marriage. When asked what the problem was, the wife went into a passionate, painful tirade listing every problem they had ever had in the 20 years they had been married. She went on and on and on: neglect, lack of intimacy, emptiness, loneliness, feeling unloved and unlovable, an entire laundry list of unmet needs she had endured over the course of their marriage. Finally, after allowing this to go on for a sufficient length of time, the therapist got up, walked around the desk and, after asking the wife to stand, embraced and kissed her passionately as her husband watched with a raised eyebrow. The woman shut up and quietly sat down as though in a daze. The therapist turned to the husband and said, 'This is what your wife needs at least three times a week. Can you do this?' The husband thought for a moment and replied, 'Well, I can drop her off here on Mondays and Wednesdays, but on Fridays, I fish.' A young minister's first graveside services As a young minister, I was asked to perform my first ever graveside services for the loved one of a rural West Virginia family. The deceased was not being buried in a public cemetery, but in a secluded private family plot. As I was not familiar with the backwoods area, I became lost; and being a typical man did not stop for directions. To make matters worse, I also experienced a flat tire on my old sedan which took a while to change. I finally arrived an hour late. I saw the backhoe and the crew, who was eating lunch, but the hearse was nowhere in sight. I apologized to the workers for my tardiness, and stepped to the side of the open grave, where I saw the vault lid already in place. I assured the workers I would not hold them up for long, but asked them to join me as this was the proper thing to do. Without a word of objection, the workers gathered around, still eating their lunch. I poured out my heart and soul. And as I preached, the workers began to shout 'Amen!' 'Praise the Lord!' and 'Glory'! I preached, and I preached, like I'd never preached before - from Genesis all the way to Revelation. I closed the lengthy service with a prayer and walked to my car. As I was opening the door and taking off my coat, I overheard one of the workers saying to another, 'I ain't never seen anything like that before and I've been putting in septic tanks for twenty years.'
