For more information on this great walleye fisherman go to to www.markmartins.net News Bits: Natrona Parks Dept. extended the existing highwater boat concrete ramp at Bishop's Point, Pathfinder reservoir an additional 24 x 134 feet on the 18th of October. Two weeks later they extended the top of the low water ramp. Soft water fishing is winding down but there is still some great opportunities to get those that got away. Boysen is probably the best bet and throwing plastic to the shallows (4 to 8') with white or glow would be good for starters. Glendo is reported to be a bit tough with most attempts being tossing jigging spoons to shore in the 12 to 18' water. Chrome or Gold is the most popular but you might have to dig deep into the tackle box to find "the" lure. Pathfinder for me was slow with the exception of Carp. Six were hooked and three made it into the boat. That was approximately 45 minutes of bent rod time with 6lb test. To me it was an enjoyable time and all were caught when pitching cranks to shore in search of walleyes. A half dozen trout also made it into the boat for a few seconds, but the carp made the day. If this keeps up I may have to search the internet for good recipes. And join a different club...... If you leave your boat outside in the winter months you might want to bring in your electronics such as fish finders, GPS, and marine radios. A neat thing to keep them protected from banging around and keeping wear and tear down to a minimum is putting them into a Plano Reel Case or similar type case. They will easily hold three fish finders and a hand held radio or cell phone in complete safety and they are lockable too.. Also comes in handy if you want to store some reels, ...... who knew? Casper Walmart has them for $8.00 for those looking for a bargain ( in the gun case section). Camping tips: When camping, always wear a long-sleeved shirt. It gives you something to wipe your nose on. The guitar of the noisy teenager at the next campsite makes excellent kindling. A great deal of hostility can be released by using newspaper photos of politicians for toilet paper. In an emergency, a drawstring from a parka hood can be used to strangle a snoring tent mate. Take this simple test to see if you qualify for solo camping. Shine a flashlight into one ear. If the beam shines out the other ear, do not go into the woods alone. Float your net: If you have an aluminum fish landing net, consider removing the end cap and stuffing the handle full of Styrofoam. Then when you drop it in the lake it won't sink, but you might have to chase it around the lake if you leave a fish in it. It may even strengthen the handle a bit.
This winter the NPWU club will be sinking Christmas trees at Golden Eye Reservoir to enhance the fisheries habitat. Towards that goal we would like to ask all members to save their Christmas trees for that use. At this time we do not have a definite time to do this but we should have a good handle on it by the next newsletter. I think we can use as many trees as we can get and we plan to gather up as many unsold trees as possible from the various tree sellers in Casper. We are working on the most efficient methods of getting the trees to Golden Eye and should have that resolved soon. Many volunteers will be needed for this project. We have already been able to move approximately 100 25 lb concrete blocks out there and should have another 100 by the time you read this. This should be enough for 200 to 300 trees. More concrete blocks will be moved out there as they become available. Hopefully this will be a yearly project for the next few years to really improve the walleye habitat. There has been nearly 200,000 walleyes stocked at Golden Eye and the picture shows how healthy they are. Not forgotten: Kieth Hagen, one of the founding fathers of the North Platte Walleye Unlimited and the first president of the club, passed away recently. of a heart attack at the age of 56. A moment of silence was observed and a card was sent to his family. Fisherman's prayer: Lord, grant that I may live to fish upon my dying day And when I made my final cast, most humbly do I pray That when in God's safe landing net I'm peacefully asleep That in His mercy, I'll be found good enough to keep wyowalleyenewsletter@hotmail.com Tight Lines -- Woody and Bruce |
