Meeting is 7 p.m., January 8
at Wyoming Game and Fish in Casper
Our meetings are the first Thursday
of the month
Happy New Year!
It's going to be an interesting year by many measurements. As a club, we ended 2008 well but not without a glitch or two. Our last meeting in December almost didn't happen. I went to get the meeting room key from Game and Fish and was told we couldn't have the room that night. This was to be our Christmas Party meeting with food and a much larger than normal number of attendees. I was told "we shudda called you.........."
Apparently part of the Wyoming State Legislature was using the room for two days and wanted to leave the room as is overnight. After long minutes of near heart attack emotions it was decided we could have the room at night if we returned it as we received it when we left. We had our meeting and all ended well.
Our Christmas party meeting was well received as we had great food. The brisket and ham was again excellently prepared by Armour's Silver Fox restaurant. All attendees received at least one gift if not two as well as receiving two of our new logo stickers.
At each meeting we hold a drawing from our entire membership. If that member is there they receive a $100 gift certificate that was donated by Sportsman's Warehouse. We add $10 to the pot each month. We had a drawing and the winner was Ty and Lindsey Svejkovshy who wasn't present and lost out on the $150 prize. We then drew for just the gift certificate and the lucky winner was Hubert Vogel.
At each meeting during the year we have small raffles of fishing gear and sporting goods. At the end of the raffle all the non winning tickets are put into a pot for a final drawing at the end of the year at our Christmas party. The winner receives a nice Carhart jacket with our club logo embroidered on the back. The winner was greatly appreciative but I forgot his name.
We did a little business at our Christmas meeting that made me proud. We voted to donate $1000 to Joshua's Storehouse which serves the disadvantaged community with all volunteer help. We donated $550 worth fishing pole kits to Toys for Tots which was delivered by our Tom Durst. He reported management was extremely happy to receive the rods. K2 TV was there as well as a radio station It was shown on 12/13/08 at the 5 & 10 pm news. The radio station guy said that he would credit the Club for this gift.
$550 worth of fishing pole kits were delivered by Raylan Heck to the Wyoming
National Guard family support groups of the HHC Casper, Alpha Company of Douglas,
and the Regional Training Institute in Guernsey. These units are scheduled to be
shipped out next month.
The second annual Platte River Revival was held on September 20 from 9 a.m. to noon. The event
totals are in: 483 Volunteers planted 100 trees and removed 578,420 pounds of debris! Thank you to
all volunteers and sponsors who made the 2008 event a success! We had a few members of NPWU
volunteer for this event. Maybe we can generate a larger participation in 2009
At this month's meeting, Brandon Green, co-winner of the 2007 Wyoming Walleye
Circuit Championship will be giving a presentation of Ice fishing on Wyoming waters.

Annual banquet
Our biggest fundraiser of the year, the Sixth Annual North Platte Walleyes Unlimited "All You Can Eat" walleye banquet is drawing near. Tickets will be available at our January meeting or by calling any club officer. We should sell out early, so if you plan to attend I suggest you get your tickets asap. We are looking for sponsors and donors and would appreciate any assistance in locating items for our auctions and raffles.
Fishing reports
I don't have much to report this month. Boysen seems to be the place to be if the wind is blowing, Glendo if it's not. No reports on Pathfinder or Alcova.
Ocean lake was reported good with fish caught in 10-14' ft of water using small kastmasters
Boysen is fishing fair with one report of 17 perch and 4 walleye caught with small ice jigs and minnows.
It was mentioned that Walkers Bait in Shoshoni currently has some very nice minnows available.
Alcova is still open for boats with some bays covered with thin ice. Fish, mostly trout are being
caught from shore with crank baits and what I call trout putty.
It is still a bit early to be fertilizing roses.
General ice thickness guidelines
These are safety guidelines for new, clear ice ONLY,
according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
Remember, these are minimums for safe travel on the ice:
2 inches thick or less - STAY OFF
4 inches - Ice fishing or other activities on foot
5 inches - Snowmobile or ATV
8 - 12 inches - Car or small pickup
12 - 15 inches - Medium truck

Ingredients:
8 walleye fillets

½ brick of butter
6 ounces crushed almonds
Bread crumbs
Salt
1 cup milk Pepper to taste
Preheat the oven to 450F. Lightly salt the fillets and add pepper to taste. Dunk the fillets in the milk and immed-

Walleyes and Wild Rice from from www.cooks.com
4 walleye fillets
2 c. light chicken bouillon
1 tbsp. lemon juice
1/4 c. butter (1/2 stick)
3 tbsp. chopped onion
3 c. cooked wild rice, about 2/3 c. uncooked
1/3 c. chopped fresh dill
Poach the fillets in the chicken broth and lemon juice, cooking almost until flesh will flake on sides of fillets.
With slotted spoon remove walleye to platter and keep warm. Melt the butter and saute the onion and wild rice
briefly, just to soften onion and heat rice. Add 1/4 cup of the fish-chicken broth and dill weed. Divide the rice
among 4 dinner plates and place fillet on rice.
On the lighter side
What Norwegians won't say
Three Norwegians went to Mexico to celebrate college graduation, got drunk, and
woke up in jail, only to find that they were to be executed, though none of them could
remember what they did the night before.
The first one, Sven, was strapped in the electric chair, and asked if he had any last words.
He said, " I just graduated from Waldorf College and believe in the almighty power of God
to intervene on the behalf of the innocent." The executioner threw the switch and nothing happened.
The jailers all fell to the floor and begged for Sven's forgiveness, and released him.
The second, Lars, was strapped in and said "I just graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead
and I believe in the power of justice to intervene on the part of the innocent." The executioner
threw the switch and, again nothing happened. Again the jailers all immediatly fell to their
knees and begged for his forgivness, and released him.
The last one, Ole, was strapped in and said, "Vell, I am from Nort Dakota State University and
yust graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering; and I'll tell ya right now, ya ain't gonna electricute
nobody if you don't plug dis ting in."
