![]() North Platte WU Newsletter Editors We are having a club family outing at Glendo on June 11 We do have a meeting of the "Take a kid fishing day" planning committee/volunteers, and we need more of them, next Tuesday, the 7th at the Sandbar at 6:00 PM. It would be helpful if those members who are willing to bring their boats to this kids day event to let us know, so we can then plan for how many kids we can schedule. We have tentatively planned on two members and 2 kids per boat for an hour or two fishing and then go back to get more kids. Our first family outing of the year is set for June 11th at Glendo at the Sagebrush Shelter which is south of Whiskey. The club will buy pop, tarter sauce, catsup, salt & pepper, cooking oil and onion rings. Everyone needs to bring a side dish, and cutlery, plates and glasses Cooking will begin at 2:30 PM. A plaque for the longest fish will be given (Must be measured at the shelter by 3:00 PM). Door prizes for kids will be given away and guests are most welcome. We have a family outing scheduled for July at Pathfinder, that date to be Saturday, July 30th. We have the shelter reserved at Pathfinder for that event. See you all there. NPWU members Rick Walter and Bruce Brugger won the Lowrance sponsored Pro Team Walleye Circuit's Division II title with consistent finishes in tournaments on Minnesota's Big Stone Lake and North Dakota's Devils Lake. Members John Green and son Brandon Green finished third. Members Rob Davis and Mike Bailey won the WWC tournament at Keyhole last month with a two day total of 54.14 lbs for 9 fish. Fellow members Mike and Deidra Homann finished third with 8 fish weighing 40.76 lbs. June 4th is Wyoming's free fishing day. Residents and non-residents can fish for free, no license is required. The latest information on Goldeneye is not good. The walleyes were doing good and growing fast but now the water quality is starting to deteriorate with high dissolved solids and salt content. We need to get a good flush of water to go through to get things back to normal. Lets hope the recent rains did the job. Alas, the last newsletter had the winner of the biggest trout caught at the Toughman tournament listed wrong. Brian Woodward had the biggest trout at 5.06 lbs. Normally I would regret the error, but it is only a trout after all. Only in America…can a pizza get to your house faster than an ambulance. Quotes of the day And, upon hearing Joe Jacoby of the Redskins say, "I'd run over my own mother to win the Super Bowl," Matt Millen of the Raiders said, "To win, I'd run over Joe's mom too." Steve Spurrier, Florida football coach, telling Gator fans that a fire at Auburn's football dorm had destroyed 20 books: "But the real tragedy was that 15 hadn't been colored yet." (1991) No monthly meeting this month. We are having a club family outing at Glendo on the 11th of June. Fishing Reports-Tips-& tricks You might want to rethink health food This 85 year old couple, having been married almost 60 years, had died in a car crash. They had been in good health the last ten years mainly due to her interest in health food, and exercise. When they reached the pearly gates, St. Peter took them to their mansion which was decked out with a beautiful kitchen and master bath suite and Jacuzzi. As they "oohed and aahed" the old man asked Peter how much all this was going to cost. "It's free," Peter replied, "this is Heaven." Next they went out back to survey the championship golf course that the home backed up to. They would have golfing privileges everyday and each week the course changed to a new one representing the great golf courses on earth. The old man asked, "what are the green fees?". Peter's reply, "This is heaven, you play for free." Next they went to the club house and saw the lavish buffet lunch with the cuisine's of the world laid out. "How much to eat?" asked the old man. "Don't you understand yet? This is heaven, it is free!" Peter replied with some exasperation. "Well, where are the low fat and low cholesterol tables?" the old man asked timidly. Peter lectured, "That's the best part...you can eat as much as you like of whatever you like and you never get fat and you never get sick. This is Heaven." With that the old man went into a fit of anger, throwing down his hat and stomping on it, and shrieking wildly. Peter and his wife both tried to calm him down, asking him what was wrong. The old man looked at his wife and said, "This is all your fault. If it weren't for your blasted bran muffins, I could have been here ten years ago!" A recent article in the In-fisherman magazine gives a new twist to spinner baits for suspened walleyes in warm water. Try taking a 3 ½ inch to 4 ¾ inch trolling spoon and remove the hooks and attach split rings and ball bearing swivels to each end. Six feet behind the spoon have your worm harness. Place a 1 oz inline or snap weight above the spoon. Troll this system at speeds of at least 1.7-1.8 mph to 2 mph. A 1-ounce weight 35 feet back will have the harness about 10 feet down. 60 feet back it will go down to 16 to 18 ft. The advantage of this system is you cover ground fast. Hang some these behind some boards see what happens. This method has put a lot of fish in the boat for it's creator, PWT winner Mark Gwizdala. And Now For Something Completely Different Walleye with Bell Peppers & Artichoke Hearts I think we can all agree that it's easy to overdo the beer batter and deep frying. Yeah, that's a great way (though very fattening) to prepare this delicious fish, but once you try this dish, a creation of Chef Mark Mancuso at Pierre, SD?s La Minestra Restaurant, you'll do it again and again. The peppers and artichoke hearts blend well without overpowering the delicate taste of fresh walleye. And as always, this is a fast and easy way to prepare fish. You can substitute any white freshwater fish for the walleye called for in this recipe. Ingredients: 1 walleye filet 1 small jar of marinated artichoke hearts 1 small jar roasted red peppers 1 tbsp fresh minced garlic olive oil Preparation: Chef Mark recommends using a non-stick pan when doing walleye and that also minimizes the need for additional olive oil. Heat the pan until hot, then add about a tablespoon of olive oil. Place the filet in the pan and brown very quickly. Remember, the tendency for most folks is to overcook fish. When the fish is lightly browned, (about 2 minutes per side) add the garlic, stir and then add the artichocke hearts and peppers. Cook quickly, less than a minute and serve with fresh steamed or stir-fried vegetables. Andy Rooney's tips for telemarketers Three Little Words That Work !! (1)The three little words are: "Hold On, Please..." Saying this, while putting down your phone and walking off (instead of hanging-up immediately) would make each telemarketing call so much more time-consuming that boiler room sales would grind to a halt. Then when you eventually hear the phone company's "beep-beep-beep" tone, you know it's time to go back and hang up your handset, which has efficiently completed its task. These three little words will help eliminate telephone soliciting. (2) Do you ever get those annoying phone calls with no one on the other end? This is a telemarketing technique where a machine makes phone calls and records the time of day when a person answers the phone. This technique is used to determine the best time of day for a "real" sales person to call back and get someone at home. What you can do after answering, if you notice there is no one there, is to immediately start hitting your # button on the phone, 6 or 7 times, as quickly as possible. This confuses the machine that dialed the call and it kicks your number out of their system. Gosh, what a shame not to have your name in their system any longer !!! (3) Junk Mail Help: When you get "ads" enclosed with your phone or utility bill, return these "ads" with your payment. Let the sending companies throw their own junk mail away. When you get those "pre-approved" letters in the mail for everything from credit cards to 2nd mortgages and similar type junk, do not throw away the return envelope. Most of these come with postage-paid return envelopes, right? It costs them more than the regular 37 cents postage "IF" and when they receive them back. It costs them nothing if you throw them away! The postage was around 50 cents before the last increase and it is according to the weight. In that case, why not get rid of some of your other junk mail and put it in these! cool little, postage-paid return envelopes. One of Andy Rooney's (60 minutes) ideas. Send an ad for your local chimney cleaner to American Express. Send a pizza coupon to Citibank. If you didn't get anything else that day, then just send them their blank application back! If you want to remain anonymous, just make sure your name isn't on anything you send them. You can even send the envelope back empty if you want to just to keep them guessing! It still costs them 37 cents. The banks and credit card companies are currently getting a lot of their own junk back in the mail, but folks, we need to OVERWHELM them. Let's let them know what it's like to get lots of junk mail, and best of all they're paying for it...Twice! Let's help keep our postal service busy since they are saying that e-mail is cutting into their business profits, and that's why they need to increase postage costs again. You get the idea ! If enough people follow these tips, it will work---- I have been doing this for years, and I get very little junk mail anymore. A solution of 50% white vinegar 50% distilled water will go a fine job of removing the water spots off your boat and motors. Boysen went over the spillway recently and is still rising.. If only we could say the same about Pathfinder. Seminoe is at 45%of full pool and rising, having risen nearly 12 feet in just the month of May. while Pathfinder is only at 20% of full pool and dropped nearly 4 ft in the month of May.. It almost seems an intent to drain Pathfinder, perhaps to remove the unwanted fish? Glendo is at 87% of full pool and had risen 7 ft in May. Member Ron Wirth caught and released an 8 lb walleye at Alcova recently. He was using a jig and Berkley splittail Gulp black shad. Fishing was said to be slow at Glendo, but should get better in the coming weeks. If you haven't received your Western Walleye Magazine, contact Lacinda Tilton.
