Next meeting is 7 p.m.
Thursday June 7, 2007
at Wyoming Game and Fish

On the way home from a fishing trip to Glendo, Bob Heck and I were discussing the Kids Fishing Day that was to happen the following day. We thought that might be a good place to give away some of the fishing poles the club had in storage. Long story short, a phone call, a haphazard plan, and the next day Bob and I was off to Harry Yesness Park with the rest of our fishing poles and tackle kits.

The Wyoming Game and Fish puts on the Kids Fishing Day with the help of the City. This years event was postponed a week because of snow and cold weather. Because of the postponement the Wyoming Game and Fish was alone and without help. They did have a few poles to loan out to those kids who didn't have one. They were glad to see Bob and I show up with our give-a-ways. Our fishing tackle kits were a big hit. I was amazed at the turnout of kids and parents as parking nearly became a problem with cars parked nearly up to the highway.

I also could see that there was a big need of assistance helping the kids get a heads up on the most basic of techniques and fundamentals. I think this gives the NPWU a nice opportunity to get involved in a nice community service project and might even gain a few brownie points. I'll be making a proposal to fund more fishing poles/tackle kits so we can make even a larger presence at next years event.

At last months meeting we voted to put $15,000 into a 91 day CD to gain a bit of interest. That leaves us with approximately 11,000 of fun money. We also voted to spend $500 on life jackets to give to the Casper Fire/EMS Dept for their life jacket loaner program. Sportsman's Warehouse gave us a good deal on the life jackets and also donated 5 life jackets to the cause. The life jackets have been delivered to the Fire/EMS Dept.

At each meeting we draw a name from the entire membership. If that mem- is present he/she wins a $100 gift certificate from Sportsman's Warehouse. We voted to increase the prize each month by $10 starting last month. This months drawing with be for $120. Last months winning loser was Gustave and Shantel Anderson.

June 16th is our family outing at Glendo Reservoir at the Sagebrush shelter just south east of the Whiskey Boat Ramp. Bring your own plates and silver ware. For those new to the club, we fish in the morning and then meet at the shelter at 3:00 PM for a fish fry. You don't have to be a club member to attend and guests are welcome. You can bring a side dish if you wish, the club will provide soft drinks, chips, onion rings, and the like. A plaque will be given out for big fish of the day. July 21is the date for our Pathfinder family outing at the shelter near the marina.

If you haven't paid your yearly membership dues this will be your last newsletter. You'll miss a great issue coming next month.

Fishing reports, tips and tricks

Tournament results of local interest
Here are all the fishing reports I've received last month.

Wyoming Walleye Circuit Keyhole Spring Challenge at keyhole reservoir May 12th & 13th
NPWU members finishing in the top 10 were:
2 CHUCK MCAULEY/DINO CONLEY 29.9
3 MIKE/DIEDRE HOMANN 25.24
7 BRANDON GREEN/BRANDON MILLER 21.6
Lowrance-sponsored Pro Team Walleye Circuit "DeeZee/MinnKota Shootout" May 16, 17, 18 held at Mobridge, South Dakota was tough for NPWU members as the top club finishers was Rich Walter and Bruce Brugger who placed 22nd with a two day total of 30.26 lbs.

This past weekend I had the opportunity to talk to Glendo tournament fishermen about what techniques they were using to catch the fish they were bringing to the weigh boats to be measured. Here is what was working. Jigging with minnows, leeches or plastics, pitching cranks, trolling cranks, spin and glows, bottom bouncers with worm harnesses, and lindy rigs. Fishing shallow works as is fishing depths to 20 feet. Only thing not working was marshmallows. Biggest fish for the weekend were 3 fish measuring 28 ½ inches. All tournament fish were released and I observed no fish fatalities. Many teams reported 20-50 fish caught each day. It was a good weekend.

Sharpening Hooks
When you sharpen a fishhook, with the exception of stainless steel, you will start the rusting process because you are filing the protective coating away from the point of the hook. If you must sharpen your hooks, cover the filed point with a black magic marker. This will help slow the rusting process. Better yet, pay a little more for premium quality hooks such as Mustad ultra points, VMC cone cuts, or Gamakatsu.

On the lighter side

Preferred language

The European Union commissioners have announced that agreement has been reached to adopt English as the preferred language for European communications, rather than German, which was the other possibility. As part of the negotiations, the British government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a five-year phased plan for what will be known as EuroEnglish (Euro for short).

In the first year, "s" will be used instead of the soft "c". Sertainly, sivil servants will resieve this news with joy.

Also, the hard "c" will be replaced with "k". Not only will this klear up konfusion, but typewriters kan have one less letter.

There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year, when the troublesome "ph" will be replaced by "f". This will make words like "fotograf" 20 per sent shorter.

In the third year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible.

Governments will enkorage the removal of double letters, which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre that the horible mes of silent "e"s in the languag is disgrasful, and they would go.

By the fourth year, peopl wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing "th" by "z" and "w" by " v".

During ze fifz year, ze unesesary "o" kan be dropd from vords kontaining "ou", and similar changes vud of kors be aplid to ozer kombinations of leters.

Und efter ze fifz yer, ve vil al be speking German like zey vunted in ze forst place....

Underwear is important!

Always wear clean underwear in public, especially when working under your vehicle.

From the Northwest Florida Daily News comes this story of a Crestview couple who drove their car to WalMart, only to have their car break down in the parking lot. The man told his wife to carry on with the shopping while he fixed the car in the lot. The wife returned later to see a small group of people near the car.

On closer inspection, she saw a pair of male legs protruding from under the chassis. Although the man was in shorts, his lack of underpants turned private parts into glaringly public ones.

Unable to stand the embarrassment, she dutifully stepped forward, quickly put her hand UP his shorts, and sought to end the public spectacle.

On regaining her feet, she looked across the hood and found herself staring at her husband who was standing idly by. The mechanic, however, had to have thirteen stitches in his forehead.
