At our club meeting last month John Green gave us some pointers on the baits and techniques that would be most productive in the spring months at our local reservoirs. Thanks John, your secrets are safe with us who were in attendance.
At each meeting we have a drawing from our total membership. If that member is present, they win a $100 gift certificate from Sportsman’s Warehouse. If no winner then we add $10 to the drawing for the next month. The May “Lucky Loser” was Gene Robinson. The June drawing will be for $160.
Game and Fish fisheries supervisor Al Condor came and gave us an update on the invasive species situation. He covered some of the problems and efforts being done to prevent the spread of invasive species into Wyoming waters. The NPWU had a vote to support those efforts by donating $5000 to help with the cost of building a boat inspection area on the way to Alcova and Pathfinder reservoirs.
I would like to mention that our second Commissioners tag was sold for $7500 and we have received the money. We voted to move $20,000 of our money into a short term CD while we try to come up with some projects the club can undertake or fund. We did vote last month to donate $1000 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and that check has been delivered. This year’s allotment of kids fishing poles and tackle kits have arrived. It is quite a stack of boxes and is more than our trailer can store at the moment. They will be stored in various sites in town until the volume shrinks enough to fit in the trailer.
June 5th is the Kids Fishing Day at Harry Yessness pond. We will be there giving out poles to all who need them. We really need some more volunteers to help rig poles and to give fishing help to the kids that need it. Lunch and soft drinks will be provided to all volunteers. This event starts at 9:00 am to 11:00 am with the first wave and then 1:00 pm to 4:00 for the second wave. We should be there by 7:30-8:00 to get some poles rigged up before the rush starts.
In early May club president Brian Woodward and past vice president Rick Walter ran up to Mobridge, SD for the Cabela’s Masters Walleye Circuit tournament on lake Oahe. They were the only participants from Wyoming so it was sorta easy for them to finish in 2nd place. They won enough money to pay for their gas and a little extra, a bit short of $4500. They were one of only two teams that weighed 10 fish for the two day tournament. No other news received.
You might have noticed a NPWU sticker in this newsletter. This is one of the first edition of the stickers that was supposed to be weather proof but turned out not to be. This one should only be used indoors and probably not in direct sunlight. This sticker has permanent glue so will be difficult to remove. If you would like one of our new “outdoor and removable” stickers I will have some at our June club meeting.
Don’t forget that our club family outing is June 19th at the Sagewood shelter at Glendo. Bring a covered dish and plates and the club will supply soft drinks, chips and the like. You don’t have to be a member to attend so bring a friend. Fish weigh-in is 3:00 PM for the big fish plaque. See you there.
