![]() North Platte WU Newsletter Editor March 6, 2008 at Parkway Plaza - Senate Room It is that time again. Our annual banquet is at hand this Saturday. Our next club meeting will be held at the Parkway Plaza in the Senate Room. After the meeting we will be needing volunteers to head to the kitchen to skin the 500 pounds of fish. It is a great event and we always get done in less than an hour. Al Condor of the Wyoming Game and Fish, Casper office, stopped by our last meeting to give us a heads up on the discovery of zebra mussels found in Colorado. He would like us to be on the alert for this invasive creature. If boating in Colorado, be sure to clean out live wells and the like and perhaps wash down the boat and trailer before launching your boat in Wyoming waters. At each meeting we draw from our entire membership. If that person is in attendance they would win a $100 gift certificate from Sportsman's Warehouse. Last months winning loser was Jeffery Davis. $10 dollars is added to the prize each month so the March meeting is up to $130. This is the time of the year when we have a mad scramble for banquet tickets. We really need to have all the tickets and money returned by our meeting so we can tell where we are. This months banquet will be 500 plates sold and I'm sure it is a sellout like our last banquets have been. Last month we put out a call for volunteers to help with the Kids Fishing Day at Harry Yesness park in Casper on May 10th. The North Platte Walleyes Unlimited club volunteered to help the Casper Recreation Center and the Wyoming Game and Fish put on this event. We plan to give out hundreds of fishing poles and tackle kits and may have some other gifts to give away. We had hoped for maybe 15 volunteers to help but we have fallen way short of that number so far. If we can't find some more helpers from the club, perhaps inviting other clubs for help will be necessary, like the other fish people. . We will try to have comment cards at the banquet so members and attendees can comment on what they like and don't like about the banquet and how the walleye club can better serve the fishing community of Wyoming. An update on our application for Wyoming Game and Fish Grant money. We had applied for $3700 for a courtesy dock for Boysen Reservoir although we hadn't at the time checked to see if Boysen wanted a courtesy dock. As these things go, we contacted Boysen people and discovered they would much prefer a bigger better dock than we had asked for. Long story short, we have revised our request for a 90 foot dock, that would be financed by $5000 club money, $5000 matching Shoremaster money, $5000 funds from a state account, and hopefully $15000 from the Game and Fish grant money which will replace an exsisting dock and that dock would be moved over to be used as a courtesy dock. NPWU Scholarship We recently received this letter from Casper College. I thought the membership would like to read it. Dear Friends, Thank you very much for your generous gift of $ 7,500 to initiate the new scholarship. How pleased we are that you have made this donation and will be supporting students who especially enjoy the biological sciences and Wyoming's outdoors! Your donation has now been matched by the State of Wyoming's "Community College Endowment Challenge Matching Program," thus establishing a permanent fund in the amount of $ 15,000 in the name of North Platte Walleyes Unlimited. The monies have now been invested with several other million dollars, thus enabling a belier rate of return on the corpus. It is our practice to invest the funds for one full year before making the first scholarship awards, thus enabling the funds to grow. I'm very sure the first recipient will be extremely excited to receive your scholarship and encouragement. For your records, I have enclosed the Foundation Office receipt, #027543. The IRS does require us to state that "no goods or services have been given to you in exchange for your donation." Again, thanks for thinking of our students! We appreciate it very much. On the lighter side Nobody believes seniors No one believes seniors . . . everyone thinks they are senile. An Elderly couple was celebrating their sixtieth anniversary. The couple had married as childhood sweethearts and had moved back to their old neighborhood after they retired. Holding hands they walked back to their old school. It was not locked, so they entered, and found the old desk they'd shared, where Andy had carved "I love you, Sally" On their way back home, a bag of money fell out of an armored car, practically landing at their feet Sally quickly picked it up, but not sure what to do with it, they took it home. There, she counted the money-- fifty-thousand dollars. Andy said, "We've got to give it back." Sally said, "Finders keepers" She put the money back in the bag and hid it in their attic. The next day, two FBI men were canvassing the neighborhood looking for the money, and knocked on the door "Pardon me, but did either of you find a bag that fell out of an armored car yesterday?" Sally said, "No." Andy said, "She's lying. She hid it up in the attic." Sally said, "Don't believe him, he's getting senile." The agents turn to Andy and began to question him. One says: "Tell us the story from the beginning" Andy said, "Well, when Sally and I were walking home from school yesterday . . " The first FBI guy turns to his partner and says, "We're outta here." wyowalleyenewsletter@hotmail.com Tight Lines -- Woody G. |
