Monthly meeting
7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 3,
Game & Fish Building

This is the season for planning events and projects for next year. We would like as many members as possible to show up to help decide what those events and projects might be. Also need some warm bodies to volunteer to help assist in getting these events and projects completed. This months meeting will also have Rick Walter giving a demonstration/tips on vertical jigging and maybe one or two of his secret spots at Glendo. Limited tickets available, first 100 people get in free.

News Bits:

Natrona Parks Dept. extended the existing boat concrete ramp at Bishop's Point, Pathfinder reservoir an additional 24 x 134 feet on the 18th of October. It is believed the other ramp was also extended the following week. As you can see, it is still a long way to the water. Let's hope it is all completely underwater come spring.

Fishing reports/tips and tricks:

This months tip for Glendo is use silver jigging spoons on the east side of the lake in the 20 to 40' range along the steep edges of the lake.

Boysen might respond well to jigs and minnows on the east side of the lake from Tough Creek to the marina. Others think jig and white or silver plastic is the way to go. Chartreuse and orange has also been effective this time of year. Worms are the secret weapon for those in the know.

Pathfinder might give up some decent fish by trolling cranks at Canyon Creek Point and up the far reaches of the Platte arm. Your mileage may vary.

During the late fall and early spring fishing seasons, one of the most important pieces of safety equipment is a small bucket or pail. 60 percent of fisherman found floating have their zippers down. Don't be one of them.

Product Report::

I was asked to field test a new Berkley fishing line called Vanish Flurocarbon. This line is suppose to become invisible when it is in the water. The line is easily seen from the water to rod tip but I could not see any trace of the line once it hit the water.

The suggested retail price is around $15.00 per package. This is about double other Berkley lines like XT or XL but seems to be in the same price line of other premium lines.

To insure a fair test I spooled one rod with Berkley Vanish Flurocarbon line and one with a competitor's line. For those who must know it was Stren. Also to eliminate any rod handling skills I trolled while testing.

The vanish Flurocarbon line caught two (2) fish for every fish caught on the other line. The only difference was the line.

I must admit that I was only able to test the line twice before a trip to the Wyoming Medical Center and Dr. Steplock put an end to my fishing for the season. However, the line seems to have great potential. -- New NPWU member Bob Gervais

On the light side:

"Baseball is ninety percent mental. The other half is physical." -- Yogi Berra

Doreen's husband Matt died suddenly one day. Doreen was taking care of the funeral arrangements with the undertaker when she was asked how she wanted Matt's obituary to read.

Doreen asked the undertaker, "How much does an obituary cost?" The undertaker replied, "One dollar per word." Doreen then said, "I want the obituary to read - MATT IS DEAD."

The undertaker was an old fishing buddy of Matt's and he was a little disturbed by such a curt obituary, so he offered, "I'll make you a special deal since I knew Matt so well. I'll pay for half of the obituary out of my own pocket."

Doreen's face lit up and she replied, "Great. I want it to read - MATT IS DEAD, BOAT FOR SALE."

Two fellows are out fishing on the lake. A hearse and funeral procession passed the boat on a nearby road. One of the fellows stands up and holds his fishing hat over his heart as the hearse passes.

His buddy comments, "Gee Harry, that was really nice and respectful." Harry replies, "Well after all, we were married for 40 years."
