Meeting Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006 at the Wyoming Game and Fish Building

Because of a scheduling conflict, September's meeting at Wyoming Game and Fish will be on a Tuesday, the 5th. All the rest of our meetings are scheduled on the first Thursday of the month.

Last months family outing went very well. If you missed it, you missed a good feed. Larry Rue, Buddie Dunn, and Joel Shinmori cleaned the fish, with Howard Ewart and Roy Herrington doing the excellent cooking chores. We gave out the big fish award to a very deserving person, yours truly. If you don't know who that is you need to come to more meetings. We had our monthly drawing for the $100 Sportsman's Warehouse gift certificate, you had to be present to win and the winning loser was Justin Parmely. We decided to draw again for a second chance and that winning loser was Steve Mundorf.

We did a little business at the family outing also. It seems the Natrona County Fire-EMS department's life jacket loaner program is a huge success. To the point that they have been forced to turn some people away. We voted to donate another $500 to that cause and White's Marine is serching for the best deal on the life jackets and they should arrive soon. That makes our total donation for the last year to be $2500 worth of life jackets to the program. The fire department has acquired $900 dollars of life jackets from White's Marine through some of their own funding sources.

I'm happy to report the North Platte Walleyes Unlimited club has received an email from a Princess Josephine of BURKINA FASO, OUAGADOUGOU, stating that she thinks we are loving and caring and she would like a long term relationship with us. Her father died recently and she would like us to help her invest $7,350,000 of her inheritance. She says she will give us 20% of the money for our generous help. She sounded real cute so I told her it was a done deal. So we should be able to give out much better door prizes at our next Toughman Tournaments like new boats and motors, luxury trips, and maybe even cut our membership dues a cupla bucks. If you have any ideas on how to spend the nearly 1.5 million bucks we're going to receive soon, we will be happy to hear them at our next meeting. What gets me really excited, was she said if we did a good job she will kick in another 10%. Boy.........if I wasn't already married.............

The ShoreMaster courtesy docks we voted to supply to Glendo have been Ordered and are being built. They will be delivered this fall and installed probably in the spring at Whiskey or Reno.

Our website's message boards have been attacked by robotic spam posters so we have decided to drop them for the time being. It will be discussed at our next meeting as to what our options are.

Wyoming Walleye Circuit

One of our club members has made a move that should be of interest to our tournament fishermen. His name is Rob Davis and has been an active club member for the last year or so. I'll let him tell you his plans:

Hello my name is Rob Davis and I am the new Owner/Director of the Wyoming Walleye Circuit. The WWC next year is going to take on a whole new look, there is going to be a lot more focus on Anglers as well as spectators, I am going to have five events, four regular season and the finale being the Ranger Boats Championship in September. My circuit is sponsored by Ranger boats and they have assured me that there behind me and together we plan to put on events that will be enjoyable and fun for Anglers as well as Spectators of all ages.

I am publishing a new magazine which will be titled Wyoming Walleye Unlimited, in the magazine I plan to have fishing articles written by Anglers with in the circuit and maybe some guest writers from some area circuits around us. I will have all of our tournament information in there with photos from each event, along with photos from all of our friends and families. The events calendar will be there with all special events listed from our sponsors and other community activities along with the fishing forecast.

I am working on a new website right now, with hopes of having it up and running soon. It to will have a lot of great information, with fishing articles, classifieds, tournament news and links to all of our sponsors, plus photos from events and friends. If anyone has any photos the would like to see in the magazine or on the website please e-mail them to me.

As you can see Ranger Boats and I plan on putting together a great season for everyone in 2007 , with a lot of attention going to fun for all. I have no doubt that this circuit has the potential of being the largest and most sought after circuit in the west, and with a little luck and a lot of hard work, I believe we can make it happen, so I hope to see all of you at my events next summer.

Please feel free to call or e-mail me with any of your ideas or suggestions.........Thank you and Good luck on the water!!!

Fishing reports, tips and tricks

While cleaning some fish last month it occurred to me that there must be a better use of the un-edible parts of the fish than to throw them in the trash. So I've decided to try to find some uses for these wasted parts of fish and will share them in future newsletters. For instance, it shouldn't be too hard to prepare fish waste into an acceptable plant food.

I will try to determine if there is a difference in plant growth characteristics when fish "sauces" are applied and if there is a difference in reactions in different plant specie with foliar feeding or as soil amendments.

I will use the two most popular fish species in my tests, walleye and trout. I just don't catch enough of the other species to make a viable comparisons but I tend to believe there isn't much difference in fish wastes when it comes to plant health. I don't really catch many trout either but it seems to work out as the amount of offal does vary with the species.

A two pound walleye will typically have about a .4 lb of waste when properly cleaned, where a two pound trout that has had the edible parts removed will have about 1.8 pounds of waste materials.

I have heard that roses benefit greatly from fish waste so I will start there. I will try to stay positive and not be influenced by those who say trout are not fit for roses. It is rumored a zucchini will eat anything so I will start there with the trout wastes. Stay tuned.

The Wyoming Hunting & Fishing Heritage Expo 06 still needs volunteers for September 8,9, and 10 to help with various activities at the Expo. If you can help at all please call 1-888-397-6996 or go online at: http://gf.state.wy.us/services/education/expo/index.asp to volunteer. Be sure to at least take the family for one or more days. There will be a lot of things to see and do.

Glendo has dropped nearly 27.5 feet in the last 30 days. It is still flowing 2241 cfs while the inflow is only 724 cfs. The releases should taper off soon as the Nebraska irrigation season is nearing an end. The lake is 21% full at the moment.

Vertical jigging is starting to pay off with kastmasters, hopkins and strata spoons, and Buck-Shot- rattle spoons. Some are casting the spoons to shore with good results..

Pathfinder has slow fishing although a few pigs were caught in the Bird Island area in the last month.. Trolling and vertical jigging seems to be the best bet. Should be picking up as the water cools. The lake has dropped 9 feet in the last 30 days with an inflow of 614 cfs and an outflow of 1135 cfs. The lake is at 20% of full pool.

Boysen has the most water for this time of year. It is 62% full with an inflow of 486 cfs and an outflow of 1016 cfs and dropped just over 3 feet over the last 30 days. I haven't heard any reports but trolling over the tree tops is probably a good bet.

The little kid sat on the side of the road with a fishing line down the drain. Feeling sorry for him, and wanting to humor him, a lady gave him 50 cents, and kindly asked "How many have you caught?" "You're the tenth this morning," was the reply.

Recipes

At our last family outing we had a great variety of good food to eat. There is always the requests for the recipes. Rosetta Bushong was kind enough to send two of hers. Enjoy once again.

GRILLED SHRIMP

Extra Large or Colossal Shrimp split open (the larger the better)
Fill with crab meat (I use Geisha Brand canned crab)
Roll or fold shrimp back together.
Wrap with sliced bacon and use water soaked toothpicks to hold together.
Grill 3 4 minutes each side until bacon is done.

Note; I use the thin sliced bacon and pre-cook a little. The bacon still needs to be limber, so it can be wrapped. Otherwise the shrimp will be done and the bacon not cooked enough. This also helps to keep the grease cooking out of the bacon to a minimum. I also place the shrimp on a cooking sheet to keep the grease from dripping on the fire or burners. ENJOY!

ORANGE JELLO SALAD

1 small package orange Jell-O
1 small can of mandarin oranges
1 small can of crushed pineapple
1 small jar of marshmallow cream
Small cool whip (half a tub)
1 package shredded Velveeta cheese

Add one cup of boiling water to Jell-O and mix until dissolved. Add the jar of marshmallow cream and let melt into hot Jell-O (hard to mix). If you use a large bowl and use a whisk it will be a lot easier to mix together. Let this mixture sit until it is somewhat cooled (but not jelled up) maybe 15 minutes on the counter. Add both cans of completely drained fruit and stir up. (Fruit will sink to the bottom and the marsh- mallow cream will float to the top.) Put in refrigerator and let it completely cool (jell up). After completely cooled, spread some cool whip over the top like frosting and sprinkle the Velveeta.

Some quick quips

Tell a man there are 300 billion stars in the universe and he'll believe you. Tell him a bench has wet paint on it and he'll have to touch to be sure.

A computer makes as many mistakes in two seconds as 20 men working 20 years make.

After all is said and done, a hell of a lot more is said than done.

Work smarder and not harder and be careful of yor speling.
