Meeting is September 4
at Wyoming Game and Fish in Casper
Our meetings are the first Thursday
of the month
At our August meeting it was voted on to buy a trailer to hold our stuff. A trailer was found at Elegant cars and trailers on west side Wyoming Blvd. and was purchased after a bit of haggling. Bar D signs whipped up a graphic for the sides of the trailer. After a few modifications and frequent trips cross town, the designs were printed and we should have the trailer in hand by the time you read this. We will have the trailer at our Sept club meeting for all to see, and a picture should be on our web site in the next few days.
When we show up at the Wyoming Hunting and Fishing Expo this month to give away the 900 fishing poles, we should make an impression. The Expo is the 11th-13th of Sept and is in need of volunteers to help. If you would like to help out, contact Expo volunteer co-ordinator Janet Milek at 233-6404 NPWU will only be there on Saturday the 13th to give away the poles. We also need
volunteers to help with this project, as it stands we only have one member signed up. If you can
donate some time contact Woody at 247-0695.
In the spring of this year, we voted to allocate $1000 for life jackets for the Casper Fire-EMS loaner
program if needed. As it turned out they were needed. It seems the people who borrow the adult
life jackets fail to see the need to return them. Kids life jackets seem to find their way back.
To try to solve this problem, it was decided to purchase some life jackets and make them less attractive.. We found a great clearance price from an online vendor and was able to get 123 adult and youth life jackets at $7.95 each, with shipping a mere $18.00 for the lot. Nobe's was able to imprint "PROPERTY OF - DONATED BY" for $.75 each which was another deal. A picture of the life jackets and the anti-theft message will be available soon on our web site.
At each meeting we have a drawing from the entire membership. If that member is present they would win a $100 gift certificate that was donated by Sportsman's Warehouse. We up the anti by$10 each month. The Aug winning loser was Bob Gervais. Bob had called me that night before the meeting and said he couldn't be there that night and I was to be his proxy. Alas it wasn't to be.
The Wyoming Game and Fish "Fish Wyoming" grant program application
deadline was the end of August. I made a grant request for $7,500 dollars.
Last year our request was for $5000 for fishing poles which we matched. By
requesting $7500 which we would match, it would allow us to purchase
1000 poles for the Expo '09, and also have 500 poles for the two events at
Harry Yesness park in '09. It just makes our money go twice as far.
When I submitted this request it was unsure just when the grant monies
would be released.
I can tell you that the community response to our fishing pole give away has
been met with amazement, gratitude, and appreciation. We have received
many smiles, and thank you's. You all should be proud.
Out of curiosity, I decided to look into the possibility of getting Harry Yesness pond expanded a bit.
To increase the shoreline so more kids could fish during the two big kids day events that happen during the spring and summer. It just seemed like something else we could request grant money for that would fit Wyoming Game and Fish quidelines.
I met with a few City officials and asked about possibilities and was not met with any resistance to the idea. I received a phone call and was told the city would get behind the idea if the club would do all the leg work. Sure, no problem....was my response.
It seems that paperwork and permits are required from BUR-REC, FEMA, State Engineers, US
Army Corps of Engineers, and probably a host of other agencies. All that just to make a little kids pond a little more kid friendly. I've not given up just yet, but don't hold your breath. I'm not sure if I want to make this my life's work. Any volunteers??
At this years Wyoming Hunting and Fishing Heritage Expo '08 we will be there to give away 900 fishing poles to those kids who complete the "Aquatic Challenge" on Saturday, Sept. 13. It will require the kids to complete four out of seven Aquatic Activities. The choices available to the kids is Fishing Skills, Boat Safety, Fish Passages, Fish Management, Canoeing, Fly casting and Fly Tying.
They will each receive a card that they need to have the instructor of each activity sign off on. When four activities are completed, they bring the card to us and receive the rod/reel/tackle kit.
Platte River Revival
There is another opportunity for the North Platte Walleyes Unlimited to get some positive exposure. And it includes some free eats so that should bring them out of the woodwork. The City of Casper is doing the second annual Platte River Revival on Saturday, September 20 from 9 a.m. to noon. The Platte river Revival is a program to clean up the North Platte river of trash and debris, remove Russian olive trees and other noxious weeds from the river banks. Volunteers will receive a free t-shirt and free lunch and a warm fuzzy feeling. We could form a walleye team if we can get a few folks to step forward for this worthy cause. There will be some registration forms available at the club meeting. Who wants to join me for this event? Depending on the activity you sign up for you will need some gloves and eye protection.
Volunteer registration will be at the entrance to Mike Lansing Field at 9:00 a.m. Tree planting will be an important part of this year's Revival. The river and riverbank cleanup area will be from just east of Bryan Stock Trail to Fort Casper. Russian olive remediation will be concentrated in the Crossroads Park area. Trees will be planted in the areas where Russian olives were removed last year. For more information see : http://www.casperwy.gov/Content/Departments/kcb/PlatteRiverRevival.asp

On the lighter side
Blonde GUY joke
An Irishman, a Mexican and a Blonde Guy were doing construction work on scaffolding on the 20th floor of a building.
They were eating lunch and the Irishman said, "Corned beef and cabbage. If I get corned beef and cabbage one more time for lunch, I'm going to jump off this building.
The Mexican opened his lunch box and exclaimed, "Burritos again! If I get burritos one more time I'm going to jump off, too."
The blonde opened his lunch and said, "Bologna again! If I get a bologna sandwich one more time, I'm jumping too."
The next day, the Irishman opened his lunch box, saw corned beef and cabbage, and jumped to his death.
The Mexican opened his lunch, saw a burrito, and jumped, too.
The blonde guy opened his lunch, saw the bologna and jumped to his death as well.
At the funeral, the Irishman's wife was weeping. She said, "If I'd known how really tired he was of corned beef and cabbage, I never would have given it to him again!"
The Mexican's wife also wept and said, "I could have given him tacos or enchiladas! I didn't realize he hated burritos so much."
Everyone turned and stared at the blonde's wife. The blonde's wife said,
"Don't look at me. He makes his own lunch."
The blonde handy-woman
A blonde, wanting to earn some extra money, decided to hire herself out as a "handy-woman" and started canvassing a nearby well-to-do neighborhood. She went to the front door of the first house, and asked the owner if he had any odd jobs for her to do.
"Well, I guess I could use somebody to paint my porch," he said.
"How much will you charge me?"
The blonde quickly responded, "How about $50?"
The man agreed and told her that the paint and everything she would need were in the garage. The man's wife, hearing the conversation, said to her husband, "Does she realize that our porch goes all the way around the house?"
He responded, "That's a bit cynical, isn't it?"
The wife replied, "You're right. I guess I'm starting to believe all those 'dumb blonde' jokes we've been getting by e-mail lately."
A short time later, the blonde came to the door to collect her money.
"You're finished already?" the husband asked.
"Yes," the blonde replied, "and I had paint left over, so I gave it two coats."
Impressed, the man reached into his pocket for the $50.00 and handed it to her.
"And by the way," the blonde added, "it's not a Porch, it's a Lexus."
