Meeting is 7 p.m., September 3,
at Wyoming Game and Fish in Casper
Our meetings are the first Thursday
of the month
At our August meeting Howard Ewart reported that starting January 1st 2010, there will be new walleye regulations for Glendo Reservoir. All walleyes under 15 inch will have to be released immediately. The complete text of the regulaton is on the next page.
At each meeting we have a drawing from our membership list and if that member is attending, they win a $100 gift certificate from Sportman’s Warehouse. We up the ante $10 a month until we have a winner. Last month’s lucky loser was Doug or Tracy Morstad.
Also at that meeting it was voted that a good project for the club to undertake was to remove the Russian olive trees at Harry Yesness Pond that clog the shoreline. Last week, club members Howard Ewart, Bob Heck, Brian Woodward, Howard Tilton, and Woody Giles met at 5:00 PM Tuesday and with chain saws and ATV’s started to cut down and load the problem trees. Within thirty minutes the police arrived after a citizens report of tree vandalism at the pond. It should be mentioned that we were met with enthusiastic approval from the city parks department when we asked for permission to cut down the trees. A short time later a thunderstorm moved through with hard rain. We moved into vehicles and the shelter during the downpour. Even with the pounding rain, we could still hear the chainsaw of Howard Tilton across the pond despite the deluge. The pond looks much better now and we hauled off over 2200 pounds of trees.
September marks our biggest kids fishing pole give away. September 10-11-12 is the Wyoming Hunting & Fishing Heritage Expo. Kids from all over state are bused in for this event. We will be there on Sept 12th with over 1200 poles to give away. We could use some volunteers to assist with this project. Call Woody at 235-1405 if you can help all or part of the day.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED AT THE WYOMING HUNTING AND FISHING HERITAGE EXPO on Sept 10th, 11th, and 12th. Four to five thousand young people are expected at the EXPO on thurs, Sept 10th and also on Friday Sept 11th. If you could help for a half day, full day or both days, it would be greatly appreciated. Please come and share the excitement with the young people at the EXPO.
Volunteers will receive a shirt, cap, and a free ticket to the Friday night BBQ at the Parkway Plaza. Please call Janet Milek at 307-233-6404. She can talk to you about areas that need more help and will schedule your time.
We did have a bit of a glitch with our fishing pole order. I received a
call from Shakespeare that the second half of our order of 1600 poles
would not arrive in time for the EXPO. After a few days of phone tag
and moderate aggravation, suitable substitutions from on hand
stock was made and shipped and all poles are now safe in our trailer.
Alas, about 500 are without the tackle kits.
The courtesy dock we purchased and donated to Glendo State Park hasn’t been working out very well. It was placed at Bennet Hill where the wind blows often and hard. The dock didn’t fair all that well at that location so was pulled and is now at the Park maintenance shop. We contacted the Pathfinder Boat Club and they would be happy to have the dock at the marina so we will be going down to get the dock and move it to Pathfinder in the near future.

News, tips, tactics
This is the text of the new fishing regulations at Glendo effective January, 2010
(h) Glendo Reservoir in Platte County.
(i) All walleye less than fifteen (15) inches shall be released to the water immediately.
(ii) All walleye must be kept whole (gills and entrails may be removed) until the angler is off the water or ice and done fishing for the day. Once off the water or ice and done fishing for the day, walleye can be filleted for transportation and storage.
(iii) The Special Fishing Contest Provision applies (see Section 15 (f)).
(A) No fishing contests shall be approved for the following dates: June 19, 2010 through June 30, 2010; and June 18, 2011 through June 30, 2011.
Another opportunity for members to volunteer for a good cause
On Saturday, September 19th the City of Casper will be having its third annual Platte River Revival. This is an effort to clean up the banks and the river it self. It only runs from 9:00 am to noon. In the last two years over a million pounds of trash and junk was removed from the river and its banks. Each volunteer will receive a T-shirt, very nice metal water bottle and free hot lunch. If you sign up, you can say you are volunteering for the North Platte Walleyes Unlimited organization and we will get a bit of recognition.
Sign up sheets will be at our next meeting or can be obtained online. Search for “Platte River Revival home” for the forms.

Recipe
Walleye On A Stick
1 cup all purpose flour
1 tablespoon lemon-pepper seasoning
½ teaspoon granulated garlic
½ teaspoon baking powder
Kosher salt
1 tablespoon vegetable oil, plus more for deep frying
1 cup mayonnaise
1/3 cup sweet pickle relish
Juice of ½ lemon, plus lemon wedges for serving
Freshly ground pepper
1 pound walleye fillets
1. Whisk the flour, lemon-pepper seasoning, granulated garlic, baking powder and ½ teaspoon salt in a bowl.
Whisk in 1 tablespoon vegetable oil, then ½ to ¾ cup ice water to make smooth batter. Refrigerate for at least 20 minutes.
2. Meanwhile, make the tartar sauce: Whisk the mayonnaise, pickle relish, lemon juice, and salt and pepper to taste in a bowl.
3. Heat 4 to 6 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pot until a deep-fry thermometer registers 375 degrees. Cut the fish in 8 pieces , about 1 ½ by 4 ½ inches. Thread each piece of fish onto a long wooden skewer. Season generously with salt and pepper.
4. Dip the fish into the batter, turning to coat; let the excess drip off. Carefully place the fish (skewers and all) into the hot oil. Fry, turning as needed with tongs, until golden and cooked through, about 6 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels; season with salt. Serve with the tartar sauce and lemon wedges.
Prep time....40 min
Makes 8 sticks
This is a very popular item at the Minnesota State Fair and the recipe was found in the “Food Network” magazine.
On the lighter side
How to Tell the Sex of a Fly
A woman walked into the kitchen to find her husband stalking around with a fly swatter. ”What are you doing?”
She asked. ”Hunting Flies” He responded. ”Oh! Killing any?” She asked. ”Yep, 3 males, 2 Females,” he replied.
Intrigued, she asked..... ”How can you tell them apart?” He responded, ”3 were on a beer can, 2 were on the phone.”
At graveside
His wife’s graveside service was just barely finished, when there was a massive clap of thunder, followed by a tremendous bolt of lightning, accompanied by even more thunder rumbling in the distance. The little old man looked at the pastor and calmly said, “Well, she’s there.”
Equipment lesson
As I was nursing my baby, my cousin’s six-year-old daughter, Krissy, came into the room. Never having seen anyone breast feed before, she was intrigued and full of all kinds of questions about what I was doing. After mulling over my answers, she remarked, "My mom has some of those, but I don’t think she knows how to use them."
